Pick a web designer based in Devon for your next project
These days of remote working and being able to work from anywhere in the world, it’s easy to decide to pick a low-priced web design guy or girl that is working from anywhere but I would say, no; don’t do that, find a web designer here in Devon.
I could work in the Bahamas and no-one would know, right? (Now there’s an idea).
Find someone local to you for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, by picking someone local, you’ll be supporting the local economy and that’s so important right now and secondly, even with the increased popularity of Zoom and Microsoft Team, Skype and all the others, you can’t beat a proper conversation with a real person, face to face.
I found by bitter experience that using someone miles away also has another unforeseen problem; they likely don’t care.
I used someone on Fiverr to help out on a project some years ago and I found that they were very distant and not just in miles but they were distant in a way I can’t really put my finger on. They just didn’t feel like they were on-board.
So, for your next design project, whether it be web design or graphic design, keep it local!
Web designers in Devon VS London – what’s the difference?
I did a bit of research the other day. It was all very unscientific and random, but I looked up some web designers in London, thinking they’d be way better than designers (myself included) here in Devon. But I was pleasantly surprised; the level of design was the same, if not worse actually.

The other benefit of hiring a local web designer here in Devon is, of course, the cost. In London, you’ll pay a lot more for a couple of reasons. One is that it’s expected (much like designers in New York or other areas in the states). You expect to pay more simply because things cost more in London. The other reason is the overheads. Our rent here in Exeter is pretty low and everything’s included, electric, heating and so on, whereas rent and commuting costs in London are that much higher so that’s all reflected in the web design costs.
